Speaker Bio
Christine McWhorter, PhD is a media literacy educator, author, and public scholar whose work examines how race, power, and storytelling shape what we know, believe, and remember. She is an Assistant Professor of Broadcast Journalism at Howard University, where she teaches and mentors students in reporting, storytelling, and ethical media practice, with an emphasis on producing publishable, community centered work.
Christine is the author of Building Critical Race Media Literacy: Countering the Narrative (Routledge), which introduces a framework for understanding how media systems reproduce racial harm and how those harms can be challenged through analysis, storytelling, and institutional accountability. Her research and public writing focus on racialized misinformation, media ownership, algorithmic systems, and the role of Black and diaspora centered media during moments of institutional failure.
Beyond the classroom, Christine speaks, teaches workshops, and collaborates with educators, journalists, nonprofits, and community organizations to translate media theory into practical tools for everyday media engagement.
