Departmental Service

MJFC Department Assessment Representative (2022–2024)

For the past two years, I served as the Department of Media, Journalism, and Film’s representative for assessment. In this role, I supported the development, coordination, and documentation of our department’s assessment practices in alignment with CHSOC expectations. I participated in departmental meetings focused on curriculum and student learning outcomes, offered input on refining assessment tools, and helped ensure our strategies were both meaningful and measurable. I also contributed to drafting annual assessment reports and facilitated conversations around using data to improve teaching and learning. This work helped strengthen our department’s internal processes and supported a culture of continuous improvement.

Technology Committee (2022–2024)

As a member of the Technology Committee, I supported departmental efforts to maintain and improve classroom technology, production equipment, and digital resources for students and faculty. I provided feedback on technology needs, contributed to strategic planning, and helped ensure that instructional tools kept pace with industry standards. I also advised on technology-related challenges in hybrid and online teaching formats during and after COVID-era transitions.

Search Committee (2022–2024)

I served on the departmental Search Committee during the 2022–2024 academic years, participating in the review of application materials, interviews, and final candidate deliberations. I prioritized equity, transparency, and curricular alignment in the evaluation process. My perspective as a junior faculty member added balance to discussions on long-term departmental goals and student impact.

WHUT Committee (2021–2025)

Through the WHUT Committee, I acted as a liaison between the department and Howard’s public television station. I worked with WHUT staff to identify opportunities for student engagement, including internships, guest lectures, and collaborative programming. I also offered input on ways to align WHUT’s mission with student learning objectives and departmental priorities.

Peer Review Committee (2021–2024)

I served on the Peer Review Committee, evaluating classroom instruction and course design for tenure-track and adjunct faculty. I observed live classes, reviewed syllabi, and provided constructive feedback rooted in evidence-based pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices. I approached this role as both a colleague and pedagogue, aiming to support continuous growth while upholding academic standards.

NYC Media Tour Committee & Faculty Chaperone (2022–2024)

I helped organize and lead Howard’s annual NYC Media Tour, a signature career development experience for journalism students. I coordinated site visits, led pre-trip preparation sessions, and chaperoned students during both virtual and in-person tours. My role included facilitating professional development, résumé support, and reflection activities that extended the tour’s impact into the classroom.

Judge, Paul Robeson Awards (2021–2023)

As a judge for the Paul Robeson Awards, I reviewed submissions from student and independent filmmakers across categories such as documentary, experimental, and narrative work. I evaluated entries for originality, technical quality, and thematic depth. This role connected my academic background in media with a broader commitment to celebrating underrepresented voices in visual storytelling.

MJFC Meeting Records (2020–2025)

From 2020 to 2023, I served as the informal record keeper for departmental MJFC faculty meetings. I created and maintained detailed notes to ensure transparency and continuity across meetings, particularly during pandemic disruptions and leadership transitions. These records became a key reference point for tracking decisions, action items, and evolving departmental priorities.

Judge, NewsVision Anchor Tryouts (2020–2025)

Each year, I serve as a faculty judge for the NewsVision anchor tryouts, evaluating student performance in live, on-camera auditions. I assess candidates on delivery, clarity, presence, and newsroom professionalism, providing feedback that helps them grow as broadcast journalists. My role also involves collaborating with other faculty to select anchors who represent the program well and maintain high production standards. This annual responsibility supports both student development and the overall quality of our capstone broadcast.
